Animalcare Launches a post-prescription Osteoarthritis Diary for clients to support the management of Canine Osteoarthritis
Animalcare, the distributor of Daxocox, has launched a new tool to help dog owners manage their pet’s osteoarthritis in collaboration with their vet practice.
Osteoarthritis can affect up to 40% of dogs, even young dogs over one year old1,2 and managing the disease effectively requires a multi-faceted1,3, life-long, approach. Their Osteoarthritis Diary is a comprehensive booklet which gives veterinarians a practical, client-friendly tool to engage pet owners in their dog’s care journey, promoting adherence to treatment plans and enhancing communication between vets and pet owners.
The diary offers a structured approach to managing key aspects of osteoarthritis. Pet owners can pick three key measurements from everyday activities their pet undertakes to monitor their pet’s progress. Measurements could include the dog’s ability to get into the car, go upstairs or get up after sleeping and owners can mark their results on a scoring score of 1-4 to put their progress into context.
Following an agreed follow-up period, pet owners, having tracked their pets' progress, will be able to work with their vet in order to optimise the treatment plan. This method of contextualised care will help to support treatment outcomes. The comprehensive structure will enable all members of the veterinary staff to understand how the patient is responding to treatment.
