A vet’s journey to the dream of clinic ownership

A vet’s journey to the dream of clinic ownership
Victoria Woods-Tickett, Partner at Medivet Taunton and Medivet Somerton, shares her experience of stepping into partnership and building her own clinics ahead of BVA Live
This year’s BVA Live will be a really special moment for me. It will be my first veterinary show since stepping into partnership and fulfilling a long-held ambition to own my own clinics. I joined Medivet & Partners in January 2026 as Partner at Medivet Taunton, and more recently I’ve taken on Medivet Somerton as my second clinic, so this feels like an important milestone to reflect on my journey to this point.

Like so many vets, owning a practice has always been something I’ve dreamed about, but I never thought it would be possible. The financial side of practice ownership can feel like a real barrier, and for a long time it felt out of reach for me. The Medivet & Partners model has given me the opportunity to enter the world of practice ownership in a way that feels achievable, while still having the support and facilities from a national team behind me.

That’s why I wanted to be at BVA Live this year - to share my story and show that there is a pathway into clinic ownership. Since joining, there has been so much to do and learn, but it has also been incredibly rewarding, and I am really enjoying every moment. I feel very lucky to be working with two fantastic teams and such wonderful clients across both practices, which has made a huge difference as I’ve taken on new challenges and responsibilities.

I also think BVA Live is such a valuable opportunity for those exploring partnership. It’s a chance to come and chat to vets who are currently doing this day-to-day, ask questions, and gain an honest understanding of both the positives and the challenges. It’s also a relaxed and social environment, where you can catch up with people from across the profession and have those conversations in a really open way.

For anyone who might be considering becoming a Partner but isn’t sure where to start, my advice would be to just reach out and have a chat. It’s all confidential and there is no pressure or ‘sales’ pitch, its simply vets talking to vets. If you don’t ask or explore what’s out there, you’ll never know what could be possible.
